Impact = Imp + Act = Important Act

Impact, what actually is an impact. Well the word ‘impact’ has many meanings. One meaning is forcibly coming in contact with other object. For eg. ‘The impact of the car with the truck was so severe that none of the passengers could survive.’

Other meaning is having a strong effect or influence. For eg. ‘The meeting with the monk left a very strong impact on my mind.’

But for me the meaning of Impact is Important Act. Reason being, only an act which is important or critical can leave a significant impact on self or others.

Let’s take an example from our daily work life. Every day we go to office and find ourselves bogged down with say 50 actions to be taken. When we do proper planning for the execution of these action items, we realize that only 15 actions can be performed in a day and when we further critically analyze, we find that actually there are only 10 most critical activities for the day, if performed would result into maximum positive impact and appreciation and the rest can be performed later. So a smart performer will only perform those 10 critical activities so that he is able to leave an impact on the management.  This is one of the examples of realizing the impact of identifying and performing the important act.

Another example can be taken from the life of a business man. Nowadays if you see there is such a lot of competition in every sector, that to be successful it is very important for a businessman to identify those important acts which can leave positive impact on its customers.

Let us take an example of a car manufacturer. There are so many car manufacturers around the world which produces and sell numerous and different cars. If still someone wants to launch a new car then what is the most important act for the person which would create the maximum impact on the customers and in turn would generate high sales, market share and profits? It would be to first conduct research, identify the need of the customer that the company wants to target and think on the USP that it wants to create in the model intended to be launched. So his important act of proper research and creating a unique USP will help the car to stand out from others and will leave an impact on the potential customers. It is not important to him to target the customer on the basic and common feature that every car has, because these things are not going to drive the sales of the car.

Hence, it is very important to understand which act is important today to create the maximum impact in the present and future. It is like the controls in the car, if speed is required and you press the breaks then u will be dead slow and if breaks are required and you accelerate, then you will be dead. So performing the right action at right time will give you the fruitful results in the future.
