Impact on a Small Town Girl when Exposed to City Life

9:40 AM | Publish by Apurva

India is such a diverse country. We have people living in very small villages to metros like Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore and Calcutta. I have always noticed that the place where a person has been bought up impacts a lot on his/her personality.

I too have been bought up in a small town of Maharashtra. My entire schooling and graduation was done in my town only. It was only after I got a campus placement that I moved to Pune. Pune was my first exposure to a city life. My stay in Pune for two and half years made a huge impact on me as a person.

Been bought up in a small town, I have not been exposed to the realities of life. In small town, one is bought up in a very protective environment. One is not able to learn to distinguish between wrong and right as everything seems to be right.

Same thing happened to me. When slowly I started experiencing the realities, I found myself misfit in those situations. But luckily I got a company of very good friends. They protected me from those situations and taught me the lessons of life. My stay in Pune made a huge impact on my personality. I learned not to trust any person just like that. One should give time to understand that person and only then decide whether he or she is trust worthy. Another impact was on my thoughts. Earlier I use to think that all the relationships, love, sex, dhoka is only part of movies as I have not seen or experienced in the small town. But when I actually saw these things happening in reality it completely changed my thought process.

From Pune, I moved to Bangalore. Another new city, new people and new life. Bangalore stay also impacted my life a lot. Bangalore if you see, is ultra-modern, more westernized as compared to other cities. Here people are very open and vocal. No one cares a damm about what others are thinking about you. So live life the way you want. This attitude made an impact on me too. Looking at others, I too became vocal about my thoughts. I stopped caring about what others would think about me if I do a particular action. This impact could easily be noticed by my friends and they started teasing me that I have become a Bangalorean.

And then came my next and the current city Mumbai. I moved here after changing my job and then got settled here after marriage. Mumbai life is totally different from other cities. The energy and speed of this city has impacted my way of working also. Here people are always in a hurry as if their train is missing. Well this energy of the city made an impact on my energies also. I too started walking in this fast paced life matching every step of the city.

This was my journey from a small town girl to a proper Mumbaikar. All the cities where I have been, made lot of impact on me as a person and helped to grow to what I am today.
