The first thing that comes to our mind regarding the word
Navigation is finding the right direction to reach out the destination. But is this
word cannot only be restricted to path finder. Have you ever thought that navigation
is not just finding the directions towards a particular destination, but we also
use navigation in our daily routine life very heavily?
Let us first understand what does navigation means. To me it
means exploring, understanding the alternatives and then choosing the right
one. Hence, navigation is done not only to determine the right direction but
also in our daily routine life to do so many generic and simple work without
our conscious effort. For example, while preparing our daily meals, we first
explore/navigate through the vegetables we have at home, then choose the one
which the family wants to eat on a particular day. Similarly once the
vegetables are selected, and being cooked, we navigate through the spices and select
the spices as per the taste required by the family.
Similarly, when we go to the office, we navigate through all
our clothes we have ready to be wore and then select the right one for the day,
similarly the selection of perfumes, tie etc. is done.
Some people who fancy shoes and purses, especially ladies,
they literally navigate through their entire wardrobe of shoes and purses to select
the right one for the occasion. The funny part is in such cases even if their
wardrobe is full of shoes, purses, dresses, they will always say that they
don’t have anything for that special occasions. We all have seen the
advertisement that Men will be Men. I think a similar advertisement should be
created for females saying Women will be Women, although the only potential
problem with that advertisement might me that it could run as a never ending
one.
Not only this, some very serious decisions of our life like
choosing the right school, right college, right career, right wife are all
results of heavy navigation exercise which we all perform unknowingly which
eventually impact not only our life but also the life of all people around us
and thereby impacting our society and country as well. Even the prioritization
of work that we do in our daily professional life is also the result of navigation.
To summarize what I mean to say is that if we look around
and observe our day to day activities, we would find that we all the time are
in a situation when we are navigating something or the other to make the right selection,
taking right decision. Hence, to me navigation is not only choosing the right
direction by exploring the opportunities/options/alternatives and then making
the best possible selection/choice.
