8:16 AM | Publish by Apurva

Navratris is a very joyful, colorful and fantastico occasion for both men and women. It is period during which we worship the goddess durga for nine days. Navratri is also famous for the famous dandiya and garba nights held everywhere. Another famous and most popular part of navratri is the food. Some people fast for all the nine days of navratri while some fast for the first and last day. But during those nine days only shudh, satvik food is eaten by all.

People think that fasting food is very boring. But after reading this post you will come to know various dimensions of the fasting food.
So let us look at some of the fantastico fasting or we can say Navratri special Recipes.

1.       Saboodana (Sago) Vada/Khichadi
I think this is the most famous fasting food item popular all over India. Sago or saboodana is eaten a lot during the fasting days. The make the vada and khichadi you have to soak the saboodana overnight in very little water to just dip it. Next day mix some boiled potatoes, groundnut powder, green chilies, salt to it and just cook it in some ghee to make an awesome khichadi. Sprinkle some lemon juice to make it tastier. For the vadas, you have to put more of boiled potatoes and very less groundnut powder and make a batter to make vadas. Deep fry them till golden brown. The taste of these vadas is so awesome that I am sure you will like to eat during non-fasting days also.

2.       Kuttu (Buckwheat) halwa
This sweet is no less than any other halwa. Buckwheat is also very high in nutritional value and helps to keep stomach full during the fasting days. Like any other halwa, you have to roast the kuttu flour till golden brown and then add the water to it. Once the water is soaked, add the sugar and dry fruits for garnishing. This fantastico recipe is going to be loved by everyone.
3.       Coconut Balls
This yet another fantastico sweet which can be eaten during fasting. It made in condensed milk which gives all together a new flavor to the coconut balls. It is very simple to prepare. Just add the desiccated coconut to the condensed milk and cook it on low flame till it becomes thick. Cool the mixture and roll into the lovely balls.
4.       Kuttu (buckwheat) Puri
Yes we can also make puri during the fast. We make the puris with the buckwheat flour. Just like the normal puri, make a thight dough of the flour and then fry the puris just like we make the normal puris. These puris can be served with curd or you can make a potato sabzi with it.
5.       Fried Potatoes
Potatoes always are favorite of everyone. We just love potatoes in any form. During fasting also you can eat potatoes. We can make some fantastico preparations with potatoes. Just use the boiled baby potatoes or the normal boiled potatoes and fry them in ghee. To this you can add different flavors like sesame seeds, groundnuts, jeera, chilies etc. Squeeze some lemon on the top to give a fantastico tangy flavor to it.
6.       Samvat Pulao
Samvat or also called as saam rice can also be eaten during fasting period. You can make puloa or upma with the saam rice just like we make normal pulao with rice. Just to this you can add only potatoes and dry fruits.

So these are some of the fantastico fasting food ideas that you can enjoy during the navratris or the fasting period.
