Music plays such an important part in everyone's life. We can observe a lot of difference in the music created in the olden days as compared to todays.
The yesteryear's music was very melodious and soulful. As the time passed, disco was introduced and then came the trend of item songs. Now if you see the music is missing the soul. There are a lot of peppy numbers that are created which people enjoy, but there life is just a few days.
If you compare the choice of the younger generation, they all love the peppy numbers and the item numbers. The younger lot doesn't know what a soulful music means.
Yes.. it i true that the peppy numbers are to enjoy. Who cares for the lyrics.. people just want to enjoy the music and dance on those peppy numbers. Now if you ask me what is a peppy number.. they are songs with high energy and spirit. They force you to come to come on the dance floor and dance to the peppy tunes. There are songs like "Baby Doll Main Sone Di", "Lovely hogayi yaar", "Char bottle vodka".. etc etc.
Nowadays the music composers have the mantra to turn any song into a peppy number. Even if sometimes they create a soulful melodious song, in the same album you will find a peppy number of the same song. This shows that people have lost the taste for good music.
When the new songs are not enough, composers have not even left some of the hit songs from the past. They have started picking up the famous old songs and turning them into a peppy number by remixing different sounds in them. The term they use is "Remix". This is something i hate the most. If the original songs are remixed, how with the today's generation related to the music from the olden days. They will lose their existence as they will be replaced with the remixed version of them.
I am not saying that the peppy numbers are not good. They are good and some of them are really good. But turning all the songs into peppy numbers is not a good thing. The original song loses its value. There are few composers and singers who are trying to keep the soul of Indian music alive. But the question is to what extent they will be accepted by the younger generation. I feel very sad when i see a 4 yr old kid singing a song "char bottle vodka kaam mera rozka" or "main alcoholic hoon". This is what we are introducing to kids in the name of music.
With the new generation of music composers come in the industry i am afraid what will be the state of music in the future. I hope the soul of the Indian music is not lost in the coming days.
