Though I have stayed in Mumbai for last 10 years now, my favorite city has always been my hometown Jaipur "the pink city". It is best in all the ways culture, beauty, heritage and most importantly the roads. I have never seen such well designed and such broad roads in Mumbai or the other cities where I have stayed i.e Pune and Bangalore. I have never seen traffic jams there as we see it in Mumbai. All the places in Jaipur are so well connected that the maximum time taken to reach the farthest place is just an hour.
Driving is such a fun there. You can easily zoom your car at the speed of 80 km/hr on the main roads (though it is not recommended). But the roads are so smooth that you tend to raise the speed there. Whenever we visit Jaipur I make sure that I drive most of the times as I don't get to enjoy the drive in the road of Mumbai. You have to have a powerful vehicle to enjoy the drive in such places.
Some 10 years back there were very few flyovers in the city and we had to wait in the traffic signals frequently. But now there are lots of flyovers that are built across the city which has helped to manage the traffic so well. Now we don't have to wait at unnecessary signals all the time. We can zoom through the road over the flyovers. Another good part in the design of the road infrastructure is the circles that are built on the crossroads. This also helps to manage the traffic as without any traffic signals people can go in any direction they want. And over those circles very beautiful gardens are artifacts are built which enhances the beauty of those circles. The most famous circles are the statue circle, Jawahar circle etc.
Another best thing that has happened to the city is the Metro. The major and busiest areas now connect with Metro line. Hence the main city areas where sometimes lot of traffic use to be there, now with Metro have seen a considerable reduction in traffic as people now prefer to travel my Metro to those areas. The roads in the Main City area are also so well designed that you can easily drive through one market area to another using the interconnecting roads. But instead of driving there, people prefer to park their car in the centralized parking place and then travel by cycle rickshaw which are very economical and gives a unique experience of shopping..!!
Another good thing about this city is the road connectivity to other important and major cities like Delhi, Ajmer, Jodhpur, Chandigadh, Surat, Agra etc. The highways are maintained so that you love the drive on these roads. We always prefer to drive ourselves whenever we have to go to Delhi, Ajmer or Agra. We just love to take such road trips from Jaipur as driving is a real fun on these highways.
Overall, when compared to the major cities that I have been, the most beautiful and my favorite city is and will always be Jaipur. If you are fed up with the traffic clogged and narrow roads in your city, do visit Jaipur and enjoy the beauty of this city both infrastructure wise and of course its rich heritage.
