My Story – My Life – My Day of Love

7:41 AM | Publish by Apurva

First time, I’m making it Public.

My Story – My Life – My Day of Love

It all started from School. We were part of the same school and same class. He had always been the rank holder of our class and I used to admire him, not because there was any attraction but because of his intelligence, honest and humble nature. Needless to say, he was good looking also.

Well even I was quite good looking, in fact more than him and intelligent too but less than him.
Till class 9th we were just batch mates but in high school we actually became friends when fortunately we both were nominated as School Captains. He was Boy’s captain and I was Girl’s Captain.

Slowly and slowly we became Best Friends. Every day in school we used to be with each other and after going home talk on phone for hours but only as ‘Friends’.

Our school friends started noticing it and told us that a boy and a girl cannot be just friends; they are always boyfriend and girlfriend. We use to laugh out on such comments and decided that we will prove that a boy and a girl can be just ‘Best Friends’ also.

After inter, it was time to get into an engineering college. We prepared for the entrance and luckily we got placed into same engineering college (sometimes, I really wonder how beautifully God writes our story called life).

Our friendship continued in college also. In fact it had grown leaps and bounds by now. We were like open books to each other. We could understand each other’s problems and feelings by just hearing the voice or by looking at each other’s face. Words were not at all required to express ourselves to each other. But still we were just “Best Friends”. We used to spend our maximum time with each other. Have our meals together, talking for hours and studying together had become part our daily routine.
Our friends tried a lot to convince us that we are in love with each other, but neither had we realized nor we agreed to it. We were extremely happy being best friends of each other.
The funny part is that being so close to each other we always use to feel proud in saying that how great our friendship is and didn’t realize that we have already started walking in the serene woods of love.

In the final year we both got placed in reputed organizations but this time we were not lucky to be part of same organization. We were happy for each other’s job but at the same sad that we would no longer be together as we got jobs in different cities. I got the job in Delhi itself but he had to travel to Mumbai.

Then the day arrived when he had to finally fly to Mumbai. I and some of his other friends decided to spend that entire day with him before he finally takes his flight at night.  I had some strange feelings that day and could notice the same with him. I found him very restless and noticed that he was looking at his watch every now and then. I asked him why he is checking his watch so often but he didn’t replied.

I kept on asking him the same thing and finally looking into my eyes he said,

“I am checking how much time is left for my flight and wishing that the time starts running like a snail, very slow, so that I can spend some more quality time with you”.

I smiled and then I said “we will always remain in touch on phone calls and video chats”. He smiled and again looked at his watch and said “5 hours and 30 mins left”, to which I smiled again.

Surprisingly after a couple of hours I also started looking at my watch and started feeling restless. Something strange was happening with us but we didn't realized it or may be didn't want to.

Finally, it was time for his flight and we all reached airport at 9 pm. He said goodbye to everyone and then it was my turn. We said good bye and then paused for a moment. I think we really wanted to hug each other but could not do in front of his parents.  Finally he headed towards security check and left. That night I felt as if I lost some part of my soul.

As the days passed, we started missing each other a lot. We use to talk over phone as usual but this time the feeling was not the same. Every day I could recall our friends saying that we both are in love. Deep within me I knew it but could not agree to it.

When he said that he is coming to Delhi for Diwali I was super excited and started counting the days. After coming home he called and asked me to come out for a dinner before Diwali.
He took me to a 5 star hotel where he had booked a table near a pool. The entire arrangement was like a dream. A bouquet of flowers was waiting for me and a vanilla candle was placed at the table.

I could sense the dinner to be really special and all this arrangement was making me feel shy and blush. I had so many dinners with him in the past but I never felt like this before and blushed.

He ordered all my favourite food and there was a live music performance going on that day. Everything was just perfect.

He then asked the waiter to bring 2 glasses of white wine and 2 ice cubes. There was something unusual with the ice cubes that he brought. They were not ordinary but a big heart shaped ones. I was very excited to see it and with lot of appreciation I asked him why the ice cubes are heart shaped, to which he replied with a tone full of intense love,

“There are few things which comes out of heart only when
the heart melts for someone”.

The moment he said that there was a complete silence between us; we were just looking into each other’s eyes as if lost in each other. After 2-3 minutes he asked me to put the ice in the wine glass, pour some wine and drink it. At the end of it I will realize what the heart was filled of.

My heart was bouncing like a basketball but I loved it. We slowly finished our wine but during the entire period we were just looking at each other’s eyes.

Finally, when the drink got over and the ice melted, what I saw was the most romantic and the most creative display of love a boy can do for a girl.

My wine glass had a platinum band which came out of that ice. I took it in my hand and I asked him what was that, to which he said,

“My love, the glass you had was having my heart which you melted to unleash love for yourself. Now, that heart has produced a symbol of love for us which is as
pure, eternal and everlasting as my love for you.”

These were the most romantic lines I had ever heard.

I was speechless with tears in my eyes. He had a similar band in his glass. He proposed me and said,
“if you accept my love and would like to marry me, can we then exchange these bands tonight?”

I didn't know what to say. I just stood and moved towards him and quickly hugged him and said that I'm so lucky that my best friend is my true love. We then exchanged the love bands (as we call them) with each other.

This was my day of love which resulted in our marriage. This platinum band is still very much part of our lives and it is even more important to us than our engagement rings, because it is the symbol of our first moment of love which will remain special forever.

Later when I asked him why did he chose Platinum ring to propose me, he said

"Platinum is very rare, pure and eternal just like my love for you.
It is perfect for everyday wear and will actually grow stronger day by day, as our love for each other will.
It is the most precious metal, as you are for me.
Platinum does not wear out or looses its radiance, same as our love which is everlasting."
