Winners don’t do different things, they do things differently..!!

“Winners don’t do different things, they do things differently”, yes the famous quote by Shiv Khera from his book You Can Win, made a great impact in my life. The book was given to me by my dad when I was in the school. The book itself was very motivating, but this quote totally changed the course of my life.

The message given by the quote is quite true to some extent. If we take just an example of a simple running race. All the participants practice for the same amount of time, put the same efforts and all have the winning potential. But the winner of the race is only one. He hasn’t done anything different from others. He too has run on the same track, then why was he only the winner and not the others. Well it is because he applied his strategy differently, he saved his energy for the right time and accelerated at the right time and hence he came out as winner.

I never aimed to be winner in the life. Actually I do not believe in the concept of winning, I only believe in doing things which I feel correct and feel satisfied after doing it. The impact that the quote made on me was that I always tried to do things differently. I never followed the path that all my other friends and colleagues did. And really speaking the satisfaction that I get after being successful in that decision, cannot be matched by anything else.

In the school, when all other friends of mine joined the tuition for their studies, I never followed them. I did my studies on my own taking help of my mom and dad when needed. When the results use to come, and I too scored at par with all the tuition going friends, the kind of satisfaction that I use to feel cannot be explained, it gave me a feeling of a winner.

When, it was time to select the college and subject for engineering, all my friends went for computer or electronics engineering in private colleges in Pune, because they are considered to be best for getting good jobs and the colleges had very good placement record. But here too, I did not followed them, I selected the Mechanical engineering and that too in a government college in my town. Girls generally do not take mechanical as subject because it is not considered good for them. But I wanted to do things differently, hence I chose it and did great in it. I was one of the top five students to get good placement in the college. The day when i grabbed that job, i truly felt like a winner, leaving behind all the misconceptions of people that mechanical engineering is not meant for girls.

Today when I look back, I am proud of the things that I have done differently in my life. I always felt as a winner as I took a different path which was sometimes difficult but still was quite successful. That one quote, had made a great impact on all the decisions that I have taken in my life and helped me to lead a life with pride.

I am sure if you too follow the ideology that “Winners don’t do different things, they do things differently”, you too will find a lot of impact on your life.
