Food is one of the very important part of everyone's life. We all love to
eat different kind of food items every time. Having different varieties in
every meal is so difficult as we all run out of ideas to make the food
interesting. I too face this problem every time. Whenever I say that I am making a
particular sabzi I could see the boring faces made by my kid and husband too.
I have to constantly think about how to make the food interesting for my family. They all get so bored with the typical preparations of the vegetables. But then I thought of the magic ingredient that we have in every kitchen, Besan or also known as gram flour.
Besan can change the taste of any vegetable and create some fantastico preparations. What I generally do is, to some of the dry vegetable preparations like the bhindi (lady finger), Kundru (Ivy Gourd), Gobi (Cauliflower), Capsicum etc. I add 2-3 tbsp of the dry roasted besan along with all the other spices. The besan gives a very different flavor to it and converts the boring sabzi to interesting one. My family loves my fantastico sabzis prepared by adding besan.
There are lot of other uses of Besan. We can make some fastastico snack items using Besan. The most common and most loved item is the pakoras or bhajias. We can make lot of varieties of pakoras or bhajia whose base is made of besan. For this you have to just water to the besan along with different spices and salt. Now to this batter you can add onions, potatoes, chillies, gobi, brinjals, paneer and lot of other things and deep fry it in the oil to make some awesome pakoras.
The other food variety made in some part of the country is the Chilas. Here the in same batter as we made for the pakoras, you can add some more water to make it to the consistency of dosa and make pancakes out of it. To this batter you can add some grated vegetables, onions or tomatoes to make different variation of the chilas.
Besan has lot of health benefits like, it helps to reduce diabetes, it is very rich in protein and it can also help in losing weight. Hence use of some quantity of besan in different food preparations is very beneficial. It not only adds nutritive value but also enhances the taste. I sometimes add the besan to my normal chapati flour, make kadhi by adding it to the curd etc. But one has to be careful to not over use it, as it is very rich in protein, it can cause digestion problems.
Hence you can see that with the use of besan we can make some fantastico food preparations, which not only enhances the taste but also increases the nutritive value of the meal.
