Evening tea time is my most favorite time during the day.
After working the whole day at either home or office, the evening tea time break
is like a stress buster. It gives the time for the brain to relax after the
long and tiring work. Hence it is my constant effort that I try to make my tea
time more interesting. If along with the tea, I get to eat some fantastico
evening snacks, it just makes my evening and again make my mind and body ready to
work for the rest of the day.
India, as we all know is a land of some fantastico food. We
get so many variety of food for all meal times of the day. For the evening
tea also we have so many variety of snack options available from different regions.
So let us look at some of these fantastico snack options that can make our evening
tea more interesting.
Mathari
This is a very popular homemade snack item in North India.
It has many variations and flavors. It is generally prepared from either maida or
wheat flour. We make a puri kind of hard dough from the flour and the
required seasoning. To this, various flavors like methi, masala, pudina etc can
be added to give a different taste to it. Otherwise the plain one also tastes
very nice. You have to just roll into small thick puris and deep fry them in
oil. These crispy savory snack can be stored for many days and is the best accompaniment
with the evening tea.
Khakra
This snack comes from Gujarat. Every gujrati family will
have khakra available in their house at any time. This is their favorite snack
and is very tasty too. It is nothing but a papad like crisp preparation of
the chapatis. These too can be stored for many days. There are lot of flavors
available in kharka like the methi, pani puri, chowmein, pav bhaji etc. This is
a very wholesome and fantastico snack for the evening tea.
Dry Samosa and Kachori
These are one of my favorite snack items. They are the mini
version of the samosa and kachori, but their feeling is such that they can be
stored for many days. Few ladies make this snack item at home, but the readymade
ones are also very good.
Pakoras/Bhajia
These are the fresh type of the evening snack. Everyone
craves for the pakoras with tea especially during the rainy season. Pakoras can
be made of many varieties like the potato, onion, paneer, bread etc. If there
is no dry snacks available at home and you want to eat something good with the evening
tea pakoras the best option.
Murmura Chivda
If you are looking for some healthy non fried snack item,
then the best option is the murmura (puffed rice) chivda. It is made by giving
some tadka and seasoning to the murmura and slightly roasting it to make is crispy.
You can also add some roasted peanuts, nuts and sev to it to make it more
interesting. This can also be stored for many days and is the healthiest snack
that goes quite well with the evening tea.
Above are few of my most favorite snack items that I like to
have with tea. I can carry them to office or eat at home. They make my evening
tea break more fantastico.
